SYNCHRONICITY BOUTIQUE RESCUING LOCAL CUSTOMERS THAT PURCHASED PROM DRESSES FROM FRAUDULENT ONLINE STORES

Archive October 2012:

Local dress boutique in Baltimore keeps Homecoming and Prom dreams alive by helping frantic girls who were scammed when buying prom dresses online from illegitimate fraudulent websites.

Dress Promised Dress Reality

Synchronicity Boutique has helped rescue countless students around the country after they have become victims of fraudulent companies whose web sites promised “authentic” homecoming and prom dresses at cut-rate prices.

“We are all too familiar with the intentional scamming of students and their families by these illegal companies. They create “knock-off dresses”, promising that they are authentic,” reports Synchronicity Owner Karen Mazer. “At best, they receive counterfeit, inferior dresses that are unwearable. More often, however, they do not receive anything AND lose their money completely, or they are notified that their dress will not be ready in time for their event. Customers rush in, frantically trying to find a dress days before they need them. This year, we are seeing it for the first time in September in response to more fashionable Homecomings and more devious scammers.”

“It never fails,” said Synchronicity Boutique’s Manager, Brooke Newborn. “We help girls every year who are taken advantage of online and find them a perfect prom dress. Unlike online stores without a “brick and mortar” location, we have a direct connection with all of our designers and can physically check their inventories online or over the phone if a dress needs to be ordered.”

One of those customers is Kathy Fremuth whose daughter, Claire, fell in love with a dress she found online. “Like all girls shopping for their prom, Claire wanted a stunner – the kind of dress that, when you put it on, people’s heads would turn. She found a picture of one online that was gorgeous,” states Mrs. Fremuth, who believed she had researched the online company thoroughly, requested the company rush the dress, and even paid for it using PayPal for extra assurance and insurance.

Instead, she experienced delays, headaches, and when the dress arrived, a literal nightmare. “As I opened the package I was really hoping against hope that the waiting and the stress was worth it. Instead, I was literally sick to my stomach. The dress, now known as The Dress From Hell (TDFH), bore little resemblance to the dress on the website. The color was different, the pads in the bust were popping out, there were stains on the front of the dress, the back, which was supposed to be sheer, was scratchy white tulle, the stitching showed everywhere and the overall workmanship was completely shoddy. It was a mess. A seventh-grade Home-Ec class could have created something far more exceptional. My daughter came home, took one look and dissolved. “

A friend of Claire’s recommended that she visit Synchronicity Boutique, and Mazer, who heard of the situation through Facebook, was able to help find a TRUE dream dress for Claire, as well as offering advice to Kathy about how to work with PayPal when the online company refused returns and refunds.

When asked her best advice for customers who have become used to buying online, Mazer strongly cautioned, “The Internet is like the ‘Wild West’ of retail. If you are looking for something as special as a designer dress, don’t risk deception by online companies. It just isn’t worth it.”

Named “Baltimore’s Best” by Baltimore Magazine, Synchronicity Boutique sells dresses in sizes 00 to 30W from a variety of designers including: La Femme, Sherri Hill, Jovani, Tony Bowls, Faviana, Terani Couture, Blush Prom, Mac Duggal, and Night Moves. This season, the Boutique is carrying more accessories than ever, and now has Tuxedo rentals and suits in every size, designed to coordinate with every dress they stock.

Synchronicity registers every dress purchase, selling only 1 of each style dress per event. Mazer is also very involved in school fundraising, and donates $5 for every dress purchase and tuxedo rental being worn to school events. Nearly $11,000 was donated from Prom 2012 Sales, supporting 240 schools’ Post Prom Parties and SADD Chapters.

SYNCHRONICITY BOUTIQUE CONTINUES WORKING TO CHANGE FASHION INDUSTRY STANDARDS OF BEAUTY–APPLAUDS TELEVISION ANCHOR JENNIFER LIVINGSTON’S POWERFUL ANTI BULLYING STANCE

As Jennifer Livingston sounds off to viewers comments about her weight, Synchronicity Boutique in Baltimore applauds her actions. Synchronicity Boutique agrees with Livingston and continues to strive towards changing the standards of beauty in the fashion industry.

Jennifer Livingston - WKBT-TV - Synchronicity BoutiqueSynchronicity Boutique, the Baltimore-Washington area’s “hottest special occasion clothing and accessory shop for teens and adults,” applauds the efforts of Jennifer Livingston and all people who feel they have to “fit into a predetermined mold to be deemed beautiful.”

“Synchronicity Boutique has never labeled women based on their size or shape. If a slim woman is not called ‘minus,’ why should a curvier woman be called, ‘plus?’ We go out of our way to make certain that our customers feel more beautiful after trying on dresses than before doing so.

Unfortunately, for many women this is a new experience,” explained Karen Mazer, Synchronicity’s President. “It is wonderful to see the eyes and smiles of teens and women previously labeled as “a difficult fit” when they emerge from the dressing room, knowing that they look amazing- they literally ‘light-up.’ Every person has beautiful features- our goal is to focus on those characteristics that our customers know are fabulous and unique.”

“Our in-stock inventory has always included sizes 00 to 30W, and we accommodate every unique need possible. This year, we added Designer ‘Sydney’s Closet’ to our store to offer additional choices for women who wear sizes 14 to 44. In addition, we have never made a profit on ‘up-charges,’ fees that many manufacturers charge for dresses that are size 16 or larger, and can result in dresses costing hundreds of dollars more at some stores,” added Mazer. “As a ‘real-sized’ woman, I have been bullied throughout my life. I want to do everything I can to make sure that my customers can shop with their friends of all sizes and never feel excluded.”

Named “Baltimore’s Best” by Baltimore Magazine, Synchronicity Boutique stocks 2013 prom dresses in sizes 00 to 30W and beyond, from a variety of designers including: Sherri Hill, La Femme, Jovani, Tony Bowls, Sydney’s Closet, Faviana, Terani Couture, Blush, Mac Duggal, and Night Moves. This season, the Boutique is carrying more accessories than ever, and now rents Tuxedos and suits in every size, designed to coordinate with every dress they stock.

I am a HUGE fan and I am honored to own one of the top Sherri Hill stores in the USA. The entire Hill Family is involved in their business, as is the Kardashian/Jenner Family.

BALTIMORE – Synchronicity Boutique, the Baltimore-Washington area’s “hottest special occasion clothing and accessory shop for adults and teens,” has received the Jovani “High Fashion Award”, presented during the PROM 2013  Fashion Shows held in Atlanta.

SYNCHRONICITY BOUTIQUE IN BALTIMORE DONATES OVER $10,700 IN CASH TO SUPPORT 240 SCHOOLS POST PROM PARTIES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Baltimore Maryland Prom Dresses - Synchronicity BoutiqueBALTIMORE – Synchronicity Boutique, the Baltimore-Washington area’s “hottest special occasion clothing and accessory shop for adults and teens in Baltimore,” has donated more than $10,700 in cash to support 240 schools’ Post Prom Parties. These events, which immediately follow prom, offer students a reason to stay in a safe, supervised location.

“Post prom parties are a wonderful way to keep students safe after the festivities of prom are complete. I discovered that many area schools and their families were unable to finance these parties,” said Synchronicity Boutique Owner Karen Mazer. “This year, Synchronicity Boutique helped outfit over 1,600 young men and women, attending proms at 240 different schools. In addition to tracking every sale to make sure we only sell one of each dress style per school, we use this information to donate $5 for every tuxedo rental and dress sale to the school whose prom the customer is attending. I also funded and outfitted students in a number of school fashion shows, and in a huge fashion event featuring Celebrity Designer Tony Bowls to raise even more funds. My dream is to increase Synchronicity’s sales, and expand our fashion events so every school that hosts a Prom can afford to host a Post Prom Party as well.” Synchronicity Boutique also donates funds throughout the year to schools’ SADD chapters with sales from Homecomings, Ring Dances, 8th Grade Dances, Parent-Child Dances and more.

This dream holds special meaning for Ms. Mazer. “My best friend from college was a juvenile diabetic. Her life was saved when she received a new kidney and pancreas. Although never conclusively informed, we believe that the organ donor was a student who died in a post prom accident. While we are all very grateful that my friend is alive, we also think daily about the fact that another family incurred a horrendous tragedy that facilitated it. I personally work hard to inform people about the importance of being an Organ Donor, but I also about how critical the need is to make sure that every student has a safe, fun place to go after their Prom so they don’t want to go elsewhere.”

Named “Baltimore’s Best” by Baltimore Magazine and known as the area’s go-to place for special occasion fashions, Synchronicity Boutique outfits customers of all ages from all over the world for homecomings, proms, ring dances, cocktail parties, pageants, Bat Mitzvahs, 8th grade dances, cotillions, graduations, Quinceaneras, sweet sixteens, college formals, military balls, weddings and other black-tie events.

Open since 2003, Synchronicity Boutique is located in Hooks Village, at 25 Hooks Lane, off I-695 Beltway Exit 20. Summer Hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays Noon- 5 PM and they are closed on Sundays and Mondays through Mid- August. Private appointments during or outside of these hours are always welcome, though never required. For more information, call 410-486-8866 or 877.919.PROM or visit www.MyDreamDress.com
